The Wayne State University Internal Medicine Residency Program's mission is to train physicians to become compassionate, outstanding internists skilled in the practice of Internal Medicine and committed to excellence and lifelong learning.
The resources available to our residents for training and education are outstanding. The Detroit Medical Center is one of the largest teaching complexes in the nation. Our residents rotate through a number of unique training sites to gain a broad exposure to clinical medicine.
There are ten subspecialty fellowship programs that are directed primarily through the department's divisions with oversight from medical education.
The fee for the observership is $1600 via credit card only. A $50.00 non-refundable fee is deducted for cancellations. Interested applicants, please submit the following items:
- Personal Statement
- Step Scores 1 & 2CK (Minimum score 220)
- Two letters of recommendation
- Proof of Health Insurance
- Picture ID (color copy - driver license or passport)
- Background check (online service or local police department)
- Proof of Flu and Tdap vaccinations

Internal Medicine Residency Verification Requests
The fee for Residency training verification requests is $50.00. Requests are accepted via mail, email or fax. Credit card payments can be made by phone. Check payments should be mailed to the following address in the amount of $50.00 per verification request payable to: FMRE.
